When you need it
A floor mirror is useful from the early weeks of tummy time, since babies are naturally drawn to faces, including their own. It stays interesting through sitting and crawling, often until around 12 months, and many families keep it propped in the play corner long after that.
What to look for
The mirror should be shatterproof acrylic, never glass, with a sturdy frame and a stand or fold-out leg that won't tip easily. A soft fabric frame with high-contrast patterns or crinkle edges adds interest. Check that the surface wipes clean, and consider the size: big enough for baby to see their whole face, small enough to store.
Baby Floor Mirror: common questions
- Do I need a baby floor mirror?
- It's a nice-to-have that gives tummy time a bit of motivation and a calm, screen-free focus point. A mirror built into a play gym or a mirror page in a board book can do the same. If tummy time is a daily battle, it's one of the more helpful small buys.
- When does a baby need a baby floor mirror?
- From the first weeks of tummy time through roughly the first year.
