When you need it
A hooded towel poncho becomes handy from around 6 months, when babies start spending more time at the pool or beach and get chilly quickly after a dip. Toddlers love being able to run around wrapped up, and many kids keep wearing one until around 60 months, sizing up as they grow.
What to look for
Look for soft, absorbent cotton terry or quick-dry microfiber that doesn't stay soggy. The neck opening should go on and off easily over a wet head, and the hood should fit well enough to keep ears warm. Check the length; it should cover the knees without being a trip hazard. Machine washability and fast drying matter after sandy, salty days. It's a cover-up, not swim gear, so keep kids within arm's reach of an adult whenever they're near water.
Hooded Beach Poncho: common questions
- Do I need a hooded beach poncho?
- It's a nice-to-have. A regular hooded towel works fine for babies, but ponchos really shine for toddlers who won't sit still to be dried. If you go to the pool or beach often, it's an easy way to keep kids warm.
