When you need it
A floor potty becomes useful when your child starts showing signs of readiness for potty training, often from around 18 months to 3 years. Most families stop using it once their child is comfortable on the adult toilet, typically by about 4 years.
What to look for
Look for a stable base that will not tip or slide, a comfortable seat height and a removable bowl that is easy to empty and clean. A splash guard helps, especially for boys. Simple designs are often easier to clean than ones with lots of extras. Let your child sit on it fully clothed at first to get comfortable.
Floor Potty: common questions
- Do I need a floor potty?
- Not every family needs one. Some children go straight to a toilet seat reducer with a step stool. A floor potty can make the first stage easier because it is small, familiar and right at your child's level.
- When does a baby need a floor potty?
- A child needs a potty when they show readiness for training, often from 18 months to 3 years. Every child is different, so follow their cues.
