When you need it
A stroller toy bar starts to make sense from around 3 months, once babies begin batting at things and reaching with purpose. It tends to stay fun until about 18 months, when most toddlers would rather hold their own toys or walk beside the stroller.
What to look for
Look for a bar that clamps securely to your stroller frame or bumper bar and swings away easily when you lift your baby out. Toys should be firmly attached, free of small parts and safe for mouthing. Spinners, little mirrors and simple rattles tend to hold attention longer than noisy electronics. Make sure it does not block your view of your baby or get in the way of buckling the harness.
Stroller Toy Bar: common questions
- Do I need a stroller toy bar?
- It is optional. Many strollers have a bumper bar where you can attach a favorite toy with a short toy strap, which works nearly as well. A toy bar helps most if your baby gets bored quickly on walks or long errands.
- When does a baby need a stroller toy bar?
- Babies tend to enjoy a toy bar from around 3 months, when grasping develops. It keeps them busy on outings until roughly 18 months.
