When you need it
Play-Doh becomes fun from around 24 months, when toddlers can squish, roll and poke dough without putting it straight into their mouths. Preschoolers start shaping snakes, cookies and little figures, and the dough stays a favorite until around 60 months.
What to look for
A starter pack with a few colors and simple tools is enough at first. Play-Doh is made for kids but isn't food, so supervise young children. It contains wheat, so check ingredients if anyone has a wheat or gluten allergy. Keep lids tightly closed so dough stays soft, and set up on a mat or tray for easier cleanup.
Play-Doh Starter Pack: common questions
- Do I need a play-doh starter pack?
- It's not essential, but dough is a simple, screen-free activity that keeps hands busy. Homemade play dough is easy to make if you prefer. If you like quick activities you can set up in seconds, a starter pack is a good choice.
- When does a baby need a play-doh starter pack?
- Usually from around 2 years, when kids can play without tasting the dough.
