When you need it

Silicone pocket bibs become useful from around 6 months, when solid foods arrive and meals start involving purées, crumbs and flung peas. They usually stay in rotation until about 36 months, when most kids eat more neatly or prefer to skip a bib entirely.

What to look for

Look for soft, food-grade silicone that bends easily rather than stiff plastic that pokes into the neck. An adjustable neck strap with several notches lets the bib grow with your child. A deep, rigid pocket that stays open catches far more food. Check that it is dishwasher-safe or can be rinsed clean in the sink, and that it rolls up for the diaper bag.
