When you need it

Bath toys become fun from around 6 months, when babies sit up in the tub with support and start exploring water with their hands. They stay popular through about 60 months, as kids enjoy pouring, scooping, filling and pretend play that makes bath time something to look forward to.

What to look for

Choose toys without holes, or ones that open fully for cleaning, since squeeze toys can trap water and grow mold. Look for food-grade silicone or BPA-free plastic. Stacking cups, pourers and floating boats offer lots of play value. Store toys in a draining basket so they dry between baths.
