When you need it

A bottle brush is useful from birth whenever you use bottles or pump parts, since milk residue clings to every curve. It stays handy through about 24 months, because straw cups, sippy valves and water bottles need scrubbing too.

What to look for

Look for a brush with soft silicone or sponge bristles that will not scratch plastic bottles, since scratches can trap residue. A smaller nipple brush or thin straw cleaner reaches the tight spots a regular brush misses. Make sure the handle is long enough to reach the bottom of your tallest bottles and has a stand or hook so it dries upright. Silicone brushes dry faster and can usually go in the dishwasher.

Bottle Cleaning Brush: common questions

Do I need a bottle cleaning brush?
If you use bottles regularly, yes, it is one of those small tools that makes daily life easier. A dishwasher can do much of the work, but a brush helps remove milk film from nipples, valves and corners.
When does a baby need a bottle cleaning brush?
From the first bottle or pump session. Replace it when bristles start to fray or stay damp.
